This Read Me file is a disk version of the printed instructions.
The Nisus Demo program comes in two parts: the Application (named “Nisus® 3.06) and the Programming Dialect. The two files together will not fit on a single 800k disk. The many files created to help you explore the various features of Nisus are also on this disk. All these files are shipped compacted using Disk Doubler™ by Salient Software.
To uncompact them do the following:
• Copy all the files on the demo disk to your hard drive.
• Eject the Nisus Demo disk by dragging its icon to trash.
• Double click on the file called “Nisus® Demo DD” which you copied to your hard disk.
This will expand the one file into several files inside a folder.
• Open this folder and double click the Nisus application which is a file called “Nisus 3.06 Demo.”
• If you agree with the conditions of the use of this demo as stated in the first dialog, click “Accept” and you are ready to explore Nisus.
All the Demo files are prepared for your exploration. They show you a selection of Nisus features. To access files from Nisus, choose the menu command “Catalog” from the File menu. This will open a window showing the files and folders in your current folder. Double click on a file name in the catalog to open it. If you double-click on a macro file (shown as a special icon) then it will be loaded and its commands will be available to you on the Macros submenu of the Tools menu. The supplied macro file is only a small sample of the macros normally shipped with Nisus.
In order to be sure these demo files perform as planned, you must make sure all the files supplied are in one folder on your hard drive.
The Demo version of Nisus does not let you save files. It will let you go through all the steps necessary to save a file but at the last moment it will tell you that it is only a demo version and will not in fact save the file. You can print any file, but you will find that across each page will be printed the words “Nisus Demo” in large letters. You can write or record macros, but because you cannot save files, you cannot save the macro file.
Check out all the files supplied with this demo. The file "How Nisus Is Different" serves as a general introduction and will lead you through the other files on the disk. We suggest that you begin with it. The file named “Nisus Macros” will load automatically if it is in the same folder as the application. To see the commands in each macro and to read about each macro, use the Edit Macro… command from the Macros submenu of the Tools menu. To look at a particular macro, press the Option key and select its name (from the Macros submenu). Some (not all) of the macros need to use the Nisus Programming Dialect module. When running these, you must have this module present, at time of start up, in the same folder as Nisus.
Nisus has two separate dialects for programming macros (which become custom features and appear as menu commands): the Menu Command Dialect which uses all the menu commands (including ones you create) as the commands in the language, and the Programming Dialect which includes, among other things, the capabilities of a full scientific calculator.
Although Nisus is normally shipped with a dictionary and thesaurus, this demo version does not include them.
The Thesaurus supplied with the American English version has approximately 80,000 listings with 1.4 million synonyms. The spelling checker supplied with Nisus has approximately 135,000 words.
